Grammy Award nominated Arranger, Orchestrator and Producer Stephen Metcalfe was recommended to Kazbar Systems to assist with a major re-wire and studio upgrade for Theatrical Producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh (Les Miserables, The Phantom Of The Opera, Mary Poppins, Miss Saigon, Oliver!, Cats and Hamilton).
As Head of Music for Cameron Mackintosh Ltd, Stephen worked closely with our technical manager Dave Eccleston. Dave’s specification included new patchbay solutions and layouts for all analogue and digital connections for the studio hardware.
Once the new specification was approved, the Kazbar team decommissioned the existing recording equipment and cabling so that structural modifications to the studio could be completed. A number of other modifications were also required; the height of the technical furniture was raised, new flooring and carpet were fitted, the studio was given a fresh coat of paint and an Acoustic Drape was hung around the live area to reduce audio reflections.
The studio consists of two workstations – Workstation One is the primary workspace and Workstation Two is for an assistant engineer.
Our installation team ran new cabling throughout the studio and both workstations, including analogue audio, digital audio, video and data. Stephen also required bespoke cabling to provide connections to the Grace monitor controller from both Workstation locations.
Additional hardware installed into the studio includedtwo Art HeadAmp Pro 6 Headphone Amplifiers, a Grace M905 Speaker Monitor Controller and a floor box to provide mic inputs and headphone returns.
