kazbar Systems has completed the upgrade of Universal Music Publishing‘s Fulham based studios 1&2. Prior to the upgrade the studio was running Digidesign 003‘s but after a substantial refit including acoustic treatment in every booth plus new hardware, the studio now has the cream of the Universal repertoire using the facilities.
Amongst the new equipment speck was a Mac 8-Core for each studio, Avid HD Native and Lynx Aurora Converters.
Kazbar Systems also completely re-wired the studio with a custom based solution wiring all equipment to patchbay.
Universal enlarged the studio and created two live Booths. One which is mainly used for Drum and Guitar recording and the other for Vocals.
To facilitate this Kazbar and Universal consulted and decided on two Mic Pre solutions. The Universal Audio 4710D 4 Channel Pre and the Audient ASP008 8 Channel Mic Pre. Both these units also have Line Ins too.
We chose the Universal Audio 4710D with a view for vocal recording due to it’s ‘Twin Finity’ solid state and valve modes when you can alter the sound of the unit by simple pots on the front of the units and the Audient ASP008 for it’s amazing, transparent and dynamic pre’s and Line ins.
Regarding the Audient ASP008, Audient released a press release with Gavin from Kazbar Systems mentioning:
‘I’ve been a fan of Audient preamps since we sold our first Zen consoles, not just based on my opinion, but our customers’ too. I knew they were really good and given the banks of eight with the ASP, we specified them straight away. The ASP008 was the obvious choice.’
A compact, 1U-high rack mount unit, the ASP008 features eight quality mic pres developed from the renowned design used in the acclaimed ASP8024 recording console.
‘I’ve used it in four or five sessions already, tracking drums, guitars and bass with absolutely superb results,’ says Studio Manager, Richard Baxendale. ‘The rich sonic density of the unit has just blown me away. Not coloured, just really smooth and detailed. It completely blows our old eight channel preamplifier out of the door.’
