Producer Cameron Blackwood (George Ezra, Coldplay, Alabama 3, Cee-Lo Green, London Grammar, Lake Komo) has just added some choice microphones and outboard to his Voltaire Road Studios facility courtesy of Kazbar Systems.
We arranged a demo of various microphones and outboard options for Cameron to try based on previous discussions, Cameron decided on the following options:
Cameron chose the Telfunken AK47mkII due to it’s full bodied sound making it excellent for all recording applications, from male & female vocals, instruments, percussion and room ambience due to it’s sensitivity.
It is a valve microphone with it’s own character but where the valve does not warm the sound too much making it an excellent ‘go to’ microphone.
We brought down various lunchbox modules for Cameron to try but the Chandler TG2 500 EMI / Abbey Road Pre Amp stood out due it’s classic vintage sound.
Cameron was looking for a microphone to record a piano with. The Royer SF24 is an active stereo ribbon microphone with excellent stereo separation making it perfect for acoustic and piano recording.
