February 24th was an excellent evening for the January 2017 calendar. BASCA in association with FAC (Featured Artist Coalition) hosted the All About Songwriting discussion at Tileyard Studios Kings Cross.

Katie Melua headed up an all-star panel featuring:

Don Black (Andrew LLoyd Webber,  John Barry, Tom Jones, Tony Bennett, Barbara Streisand), Carla Marie WIlliams (Britney Spears, Girls Aloud, Kylie Minogue, Naughty Boy, Beyonce), Uzoechi Eminike professionally known as MNEK (Beyonce, Little Mix, Rudimental, Zara Larsson, Little Mix, Clean Bandit, Craig David, Bastille, Madonna) and William Orbit (Sting, Prince, Human League, Madonna).

During the evening, the panel had in depth discussion of their own paths to success and compared how songwriting methods have changed and embraced modern technology as a means of enhancing the creative experience. It was interesting to hear the contrasting view points put forward of how some modern pop records come to fruition using modern songwriting techniques over the more traditional ways of working.

It was also a pleasure to have the opportunity to meet and chat with Iomgen Heap, representing the Featured Artist Coalition. The FAC is an organisation setup to support, promote and protect the artist community within the music industry. Speaking as a single voice, the FAC, actively promotes transparency and fairness within the industry.
