Carey Willets, Bass Guitar and Backing Vocals for platinum selling Mercury Music Prize nominated indie band Athlete has been upgrading his private studio with Kazbar Systems.
Starting with the Presonus StudioLive 16.4.2AI, Carey was after a solution which replaced his previous audio interface wishing to have a solution which offered ‘hands on’ control, flexibility (including flexible headphone mixes), excellent recording and mixing quality plus compact too.
The other deciding specifications were the on-board DSP Effects but most importantly, the StudioLive’s Firewire connection allowing 22 Channels of recording direct to the host computer.
Carey is also a partner in a fine production & tracking recording studio in East London but also has a fine array of outboard within his private studio including a Warm Audio WA76 Limiting Amplifier and Radial Workhorse 500 Series Lunchbox.

Also part of the studio upgrade was a Universal Audio UAD-2 Satellite Quad Custom DSP Processor merging quality Universal Audio effects alongside the DSP of the Presonus Studio Live 16.4.2 and the hardware outboard.
Carey’s microphone of choice is a Sontronics Saturn Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone due to it’s multi patterm flexability and retro design and sound making it an excellent all-round choice for vocals and instruments.
